Assault with a deadly weapon is an attack on another person with the use of an object, to inflict great bodily injury or to act in a way that will result in great bodily injury. The deadly weapon can be any number of things other than the person’s body to inflict injury.
This offense can be charged as a misdemeanor or felony depending on one’s criminal record and the details of the crime itself. If charged as a misdemeanor the defendant is looking at probation, up to 1 year in county jail, fines, community service, and restitution. If it is charged as a felony the offense can be punished with state prison time in addition to possibly qualifying as a strike.
